If she keeps up the good work, that is. Squaw Valley resident Laurel Shanley was a regular on the World Cup circuit from 2003-2006, and she may be on her way back to it. She has won the first of two U.S. Freestyle Selection Events in Winter Park, Colorado, scoring two points better than runner up Chelsea Henitiuk.

If Laurel wins again, she’ll get a spot on the C team on the U.S. Ski Team and a position on the upcoming Northern American World Cups at Deer Valley, Utah, and Lake Placid, N.Y.

Here are yesterday’s top three athletes for the Moguls competition (the second competition will take place tomorrow):

Women

1. Laurel Shanley, Squaw Valley, 23.63

2. Chelsea Henitiuk, Canada, 21.83

3. Alison DiGravio, USA, 21.75

Men

1. Shane Cordeau, USA, 25.08

2. Jimmy Discoe, USA, 24.74

3. Jeremy Cota, USA, 24.28
