What you don’t know about Russell Ferguson, winner of So You Think You Can Dance

In the “So You Think You Can Dance” finale last night, the title of America’s favorite dancer and $250,000 went to the Boston krumper, Russell Ferguson. He beat out several competitors, many of whom had extensive classical training. “It feels crazy, a dream come true [and] everything into one,” said Russell. “It feels like everything has just fell into place … everything is so perfect right now. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Here’s what you don’t know about Russ though. Supposedly, he is a great skier. We don’t have factual evidence, but we’ve heard reports. It got us thinking: does a great dancer make for a great skier?

Let’s brainstorm. Russell overcame injuries to claim the number one spot. He’s obviously tough and stoic…something a good ski racer certainly needs.

The dude is ripped. He is all muscle from head to toe, especially in his lower body. Many of the muscles he uses to dance are the same ones used to ski aggressively.

He lives in Boston, so he’s used to the cold. OK, that one was kinda weak.

He has a certain sense of calm under pressure. You can’t choke in front of a live audience during a dance routine, even though you know millions are watching. Same can be said for Ted Ligety or Lindsey Vonn. They’ve got millions watching their every move on the ski run…they too must find a sense of zen before taking off from the starting gate.

So, we at The Ski Channel think these rumors about Russell Ferguson’s ski skills are true. If you have any insider info for us, or can brainstorm some more reasons why a good dancer might make for a good skier, let us know below.
