World Champion Lindsey Vonn again took Val d’Isere by storm today and notched her 25th World Cup win–continuing to make history race by race. Today, Vonn took the lead by over a second, which is like a mile in ski racing terms.

“She did a good job executing her plan – nail the downhill then skiing smart in the slalom,” said U.S. women’s head coach Jim Tracy of Vonn.

Vonn herself said she was a bit conservative at the top of the slalom but then began to let her skis run. ”It’s not my best discipline and right now downhill is working really well for me,” she said. “My goal was just to have a solid downhill run and have an advantage and not have to risk as much in the slalom. So I was pretty cautious in the top part of the slalom. At the bottom I just let things go.”

Vonn smoked the La Daille downhill course in 1:44.66 seconds, 1.52 seconds ahead of her best friend and toughest competitor, Germany’s Maria Riesch–who ended up with the silver medal. ”I knew I was going fast because I was getting a lot of air off all the jumps,” said Vonn.
