Winter storm continues to pound the East Coast; New England hit today

The East Coast of the United States is continuing to get dumped on, as the massive winter storm that hit yesterday is turning North today.  Winter storm warnings were in effect for New York, Long Island, Boston, southeastern New England, and Cape Cod.  By early today, Bethesda, Maryland had 23 inches on the ground, which was the amount that got dumped on Philadelphia.  Dulles and Reagan airports closed on Saturday, but both were open today with one runway.

The storm is known as a nor’easter, and its effect on the mid-Atlantic region are evident everywhere, like the image to the left from a house on Capitol Hill.  Ski areas like Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia also benefited from the storm, as they received almost two feet of snow yesterday.  It appears that ski resorts in the North will be the beneficiaries today, as almost a foot as fallen in areas of New York state.
