It’s official! The Forest Service has approved some neat improvements for Vail Mountain. We’ll now get a new chairlift in Sun Down Bowl and Chair 5 will be replaced with a high-speed quad. The new lift will go from the bottom of Chair 5 to the top of Game Creek Bowl.

Other improvements include a new restaurant, maintenance facility, and more snowmaking on the Simba trail.

Here’s Scott Fitzwilliams, supervisor for the White River National Forest: “All of the projects encompassed in this decision seek to protect important resource values while at the same time enhancing the guest experience at Vail, including increased efficiency, improved circulation and additional on mountain guest services.”

Chris Jarnot, chief operating officer of Vail Mountain for Broomfield-based Vail Resorts, said Chair 5 will be the first project to be completed as it’s set to happen this summer: “We have yet to determine definitive timelines for each of the other projects, but we’re glad to have the support of the Forest Service to be able to move forward when appropriate.”
