Men’s Bormio World Cup downhill training results

Slovenia’s Andrej Jerman was the fastest skier in today’s World Cup downhill training in Bormio, Italy. The veteran athlete led Austria’s Mario Scheiber by nearly a full second–which means miles in Alpine terms.

Italian Christof Innerhofer–last year’s Bormio downhill winner–finished sixth, and Marco Sullivan was the top U.S. Ski Team athlete, in 25th.

Today’s performance won’t necessarily dictate the athletes’ times in Tuesday’s Audi FIS World Cup race, as some athletes may not have skied at full speed.

Americans Sullivan, Andrew Weibrecht, Steven Nyman, Erik Fisher and Scott Macartney are set to start tomorrow and race toward an Olympic team spot. Top American downhiller Bode Miller will be sitting the race out.
