First Superpipe open on the east coast

Mount Snow Ski Resort in Vermont is now home to the season’s first east coast superpipe: Carinthia. Yes, this is the same pipe that will be used in the finals of the Winter Dew Tour February 4-7, 2010. But by then, the pipe will be built even larger than it is now—and now it’s at 400 feet long with 16 foot walls.

It took 125 hours of man work to get this puppy up and running, and as of 10AM this morning, the first rider dropped in and christened it. The pipe will be open to the public through January 18th, then it’ll be close through the Dew finals. “The process of building a pipe usually takes over a month from start to finish. We were able to make it happen in less time this year with constant snowmaking and long hours of overnight building. In the end its well worth it, now we move to Mineshaft and Inferno,” said Ken Gaitor, Mount Snow’s terrain parks manager.
