Blue moons, asteroids hitting Earth, skiers have best seat in the house

As we reported yesterday, when it comes to viewing the rare Blue Moon that will take place tomorrow on New Year’s Eve, skiers and snowboarders will have the best views.

They’ll also have the best views when the asteroid Apophis smashes into the Earth in 2036.

Now that I’ve scared you…relax. Today, scientists in Russia announced their plan to prevent the collision between Earth and Apophis (3X larger than the last meteorite in Earth’s line of sight). They will use a spacecraft to break the path of the asteroid, and they won’t have to use nuclear explosives to do so.

In case their plans go awry, however, rest assured you ski-towners will have the clearest skies to watch the giant rock hurtle into the Earth.
