Avalanches in Switzerland spark tragedy

Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of the five people that were killed in Bern, Switzerland due to avalanches.

In the Diemtig Valley, an avalanche hit a group of skiers on Sunday. Three people were killed due to that slide. Then, once the Swiss Air Service got there, another avalanche hit, killing a rescue worker, putting the tally at four deaths.

As well as the deaths, eight others were hospitalized with injuries, and three people are still missing.

In a separate incident, another man died Sunday after an avalanche hit Switzerland’s Valais canton.

Again, we offer our condolences to all involved in these avalanche tragedies. Please educate yourselves on avalanche awareness before going off into the backcountry on your own. As you can see, avalanches are not to be taken lightly.
