The Tour de Ski is an awesome eight-stage cross country skiing event that lasts ten days and traverses over three countries. The overall winner gets $147,000 and 400 World Cup points.

Yesterday was day three, and the overall female leader right now is Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk. Although in the lead overall, yesterday Kowalczyk came in behind Slovenia’s Petra Majdic. Majdic is second in overall points, 27 behind Kowalczyk.

The male overall leader right now is Norway’s Petter Northug, who finished second yesterday behind Norwegian Eldar Roenning.

American Andrew Newell led every North American racer with an eighth place finish yesterday. “It’s always good to be in the top 10, but it’s not a good day unless I’m in the final,” Newell said who lost a semifinal heat. “I think I was feeling a little bit tired today. I was slow in the qualifying rounds and picked it up a bit for the heats.”

The Tour de Ski continues tomorrow with men’s and women’s sprint races in Prag.
