Dubai has just unveiled the tallest building in the world (by far). The Burj Khalifa (previously known as the Burj Dubai), stands at a staggering 2,716 feet. It has 28,000 glass panels, 160 floors and 5,381 square feet of office and apartment space. The world’s highest mosque will be on the 158th floor, while the world’s highest swimming pool will be on the 76th floor.

The epic opening ceremony, with a grand fireworks show, was viewed by 6,000 guests and was held 1,325 days after construction began.

Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, renamed the building the Burj Khalifa after the president of the United Arab Emirates and emir of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan. Abu Dhabi recently gave Dubai $10 billion to help pay off its debts. Maktoum said: “This great project deserves to carry the name of a great man. Today I inaugurate Burj Khalifa.”
