Bombs or bombing down a hill? NCTC director Michael Leiter gets slammed for going skiing

Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Michael Leiter is taking some serious heat from the big boys of media.  His crime?  Going on a ski trip!

Leiter went on a ski vacation the day after the attempted Christmas Day bombing of Northwest Airlines flight 253.   The New York Daily News and Fox News have portrayed Leiter’s ski vacation as irresponsible in the face of the underwear bomber, that Leiter “remained on the ski slopes” after the bungled terrorist attack.

The White House and supporters of Leiter have disputed the story.  Denis McConogh, National Security Staff Cheif of Staff told ABC News that “Leiter was — throughout the events of December 25, 2009 — indeed at the National Counterterrorism Center in McLean, Virginia, and intimately involved in all aspects of the nation’s response to the attempted terrorist attack — to include coordinating intelligence, examining terrorist watch-listing, and briefing Members of Congress.”

To paint a better sound bite picture in this knee-jerk media environment, it was  also reported that Leiter, who is divorced, went with his 7-year-old son for his birthday to meet his 70-year-old grandparents.

The media is comedy.  He went skiing and doesn’t care about your safety!  Yeah, well, he was doing it for the children!

The mainstream media is missing the point.  It’s never not alright to go skiing.  Period.  Also, the most difficult problems require the best thinking, and the best thinking is done on a chairlift.  If Stephen Hawking weren’t confined to a wheelchair, up on a chairlift he’d have solved everything by now.  Skiing, the way and the truth, with or without the light.
