We’ll admit it: We didn’t know much about Danny Davis until he claimed a surprise win of the most recent snowboard halfpipe Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain, CA. The 22 year-old Tahoe rider fairly and squarely beat out top gun Shaun White with a series of amazing double corks he claimed were for his hospitalized buddy, Kevin Pearce.
Originally from Tahoe, Davis also won the Dew Tour event Dec. 21 at Breckenridge, CO. The ‘Frends’ crew athlete has also found success in Slopestyle events, claiming gold medals at the Dew Tour and European Open, and he also won the Rail Jam back in 2007, in Fukushima, Japan.
So who is this guy?
Well, he’s clearly not ‘new,’ as we had thought. A dark horse with shining armor? Maybe! And we dig him!
Originally from Michigan, Davis possesses the cool ease and calm under pressure only found in the elite of the elite athletes. Of his winning run at yesterday’s snowboard Grand Prix (which is also one of five Olympic qualifying events) Davis shrugged and said, “It feels good. It’s snowboarding. It’s supposed to be fun so as long as I have fun then that’s what matters.”
We had fun when we checked out Davis’ cool website complete with robots, Malibu Barbie and Bob Dylan tunes.
