Peetu Piiroinen back on top of Swatch TTR World Tour

At the O’Neill Evolution over the weekend, Finland’s rockstar snowboarder Peetu Piiroinen proved he may have what it takes to once again claim the championship title for the Swatch TTR World Snowboarding Tour. It’s been a tight race with Slovenia’s Marko Grilc, and Marko actually won the 5Star title over the weekend, but Peetu’s 3rd place gave him enough points to push him to number one overall.

Marko came out strong in Davos, Switzerland, with a double backflip, double cork 1080 and a 5-0 to backflip off the rail. It’s Peetu who is flying high right now though. Asked if he thinks he can take the title for the second consecutive year, (which would make him the first snowboarder ever to do that), he said “It is possible. Right now I have five results. I am pretty confident for the 6Stars that are coming. It would be really nice and I will for sure go for it and do my best and hope it is enough.”

While Peetu is certainly looking good, there are many 5 and 6Star events to go before the Tour Champion is crowned at the Burton US Open. U.S. snowboarder Eric Wilett is doling out strong performances, as are Norwegian Stale Sandbech and Seppe Smits from Belgium.

Keep your ears perked up for the rest of this tour, it should be a competitive and exciting one.
