Austrian Marlies Schild notched an historic 20th World Cup slalom win today.  In Flachau, Austria, starting the second run in fourth position, Schild smoked the field on the second run, winning by 0.34 seconds.

The 28-year-old won the slalom title in 2007 & 2008.  It’s her second slalom victory of the season, having won in Leinz in December.

The nighttime race looked like it might turn into the Riesch sister story.  Lesser known and younger sister, Susanne Riesch was just ahead of her superstar sister Maria Riesch after the first run.  But, Susanne crashed on the second run, Maria stayed in second, and Schild jumped from fourth to first.  Kathrin Zettel of Austria finished in third.

Lindsey Vonn continues to struggle in the technical races.  Vonn straddled a gate on her first run and crashed.  Vail’s Sarah Schleper was the only American to finish in the points, landing in 17th place.
