It’s a Riesch family reunion at the top of the standings after the first run of the World Cup slalom at Flachau, Austria.  Susanne Riesch, the younger sister of Maria Riesch, leads her older sister by 0.12 seconds.  Kathrin Zettel of Austria is 0.93 seconds back.

American superstar Lindsey Vonn straddled a gate and fell halfway down the course.  Vonn admitted that her confidence is lagging in the slalom events.  “Things are not going well since the injury,” said Vonn. “I haven’t changed anything but the self-confidence isn’t there anymore.  It’s difficult as long as my arm hurts, but happily there are not many slaloms left this season.”

Vail’s Sarah Schleper is the only American that earned a second run.  Schleper is in 17th place after the first run, 2.59 seconds back of the pace.
