How Aspen is participating in National Ski Area Association Safety Week

                         Aspen/Snowmass to host safety demonstrations during NSAA safety week, January 16-22, 2010

Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., January 15, 2010 – Aspen/Snowmass will host on-mountain demos, the annual Kids Poster Contest at Buttermilk and will be handing out avalanche dog trading cards to spread safe skiing and riding messages during NSAA’s Safety Week, January 16 – 22, 2009.

The avalanche dog trading cards (see attached) are new to this year’s Safety Week in Aspen/Snowmass.  Patrollers will be handing out these cards throughout the week on all four mountains.  There will also be an online component to this year’s Safety Week, visit here to interact with the avalanche dogs:

Public Safety Week 2010 Schedule:

Saturday, January 16 – Aspen Highlands – 12:30 p.m.

Ski Patrol will conduct Ski Area Boundary and Avalanche Dog Demos in front of the Merry-Go-Round.  $5 Merry-Go-Round coupons will be handed out to skiers/riders demonstrating safe skiing and by answering safety questions correctly.

Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 17 – Snowmass – All day

Patrol Safety Tent in Snowmass base village focused on preventing skier/rider collisions.

Tuesday, January 19 – Aspen Mountain – 10:30 a.m.

Avalanche dog demo.  Check in with Patrol for the location.

Wednesday, January 20 – Buttermilk – 12 p.m.

The annual Kids Poster Contest resumes at Bumps where children are invited to complete the “Passport to Safety.” They will visit seven lifts and complete their safety posters, which will then be displayed at Buttermilk.  There will be a chance to win a free helmet!  All children 12 and under (locals and visitors) are invited to participate.

Thursday, January 21 – Aspen Mountain – 10:30 a.m.
