Conan O’Brien deal with NBC finalized, staff not getting shafted

At about 1AM Pacific time today, Conan O’Brien signed a deal with NBC finalizing his leaving the network. Details are still unclear as NBC hasn’t officially announced it yet, but at this point we know that Conan got $32 million and his staff got $12 million. There is also a certain amount of time Conan must stay off the air. While this whole debacle was crappy for everyone involved, it seems Conan got a fair deal…well, as fair as could be expected. Will he put some of his dough into purchasing a ski chalet and live a “rich ski-bum” lifestyle until he can return to broadcasting?

Here’s Conan’s manager, Gavin Polone: “In the end, Conan was appreciative of the steps NBC made to take care of his staff and crew, and decided to supplement the severance they were getting out of his own pocket. Now he just wants to get back on the air as quickly as possible”.

It will be interesting to see how the ratings for “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno fare. It seems Team CoCo had many followers…whatever the case, NBC is sure to consider this a mere blip on the radar as they plug along, conducing business as usual, hoping people will one day forget that this ever happened.
