Nordic Combined Junior World Championships preview

HINTERZARTEN (GER), 25 January 2010 – With the first training jumps from the K 95 hill in Hinterzarten, the Junior World Championships for Nordic Combined started today.

In the start list, there are a lot of prominent names. Johannes Rydzek from Oberstdorf (GER) is a power house in the German team and is also qualified for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games; his team-mate Manuel Faisst got World Cup experiences like Kaarel Nurmsalu (EST); Samuel Guy (FRA); Armin Bauer (ITA); Junshiro Kobayashi, Yoshito Watabe (both JPN); Truls Soenstehagen Johansen, Ole Christian Wendel (both NOR); Pawel Slowiok (POL); Gasper Berlot (SLO); Taylor Fletcher (USA) and others.

Overall, 73 athletes from 16 nations will enter the three competitions. Alessandro Pittin (ITA), a three time Junior World Championship’s Gold Medal Winner, will skip the event and train in view of the Olympic Games.

Competitions will be held

on Wednesday, 27 January—jumping portion at 1 pm; 5 km cross-country at 3:45 pm

on Friday, 29 January—jumping portion at 10 am; 10 km cross-country at 1 pm

on Sunday, 31 January (team)—jumping portion at 10 am; 4 x 5 km cross-country at 1 pm
