                                                The Mountain Dedicates Presidents Week to Top to Bottom Family Fun

[Squaw Valley USA] January 26, 2010 – Squaw Valley USA comes alive in February with a weeklong kids’ extravaganza. Big trucks, street parties and kids’ concerts are just a few of the festivities for kids and families taking place during Squaw Valley’s Kid-O-Rama. Kids can ski and ride the mountain in brand new ways with the new parent/child Squallywood Clinic and Squaw Sessions Teen Camp. Kid-O-Rama runs from February 13 through February 21, 2010.

The week kicks off Saturday, February 13 with a “Dance Party on Ice” Skating Party at the Olympic Ice Pavilion, el. 8,200’, snowtubing on Papoose, and family ski racing at the Ford Recreational Raceway. The rest of the week brings Big Truck Night at the base, the Fountain Court Street Party in the Village and Costume Skating Party, along with a host of other events for kids and families. Many Kid-O-Rama events are free. Holiday rates apply to events such as skating, tubing and racing. Tubing is $16 for an hour, skating is $11 for two hours and coin-op family racing is $1 per run.

The marquee event of Kid-O-Rama takes place Saturday, February 20 with Kids Night featuring Todd Wees, the acclaimed children’s performer based out of Truckee, CA. The event includes Wees’ performance of original kids’ songs, face-painting, balloon clown and a pizza party for both little ones and parents. Wine and beer will also be available for those of age.

Starting Thursday, February 18, Night Snowtubing kicks off with a “Hot Chocolate and S’mores Party” at the Papoose Discovery Center. Guests can night tube all weekend long, 4pm to 8pm from Thursday through Saturday. For those who just can’t get enough of the mountain, night skiing and riding is free with any half or full day lift ticket and is offered every Friday and Saturday until 9 pm, and Sunday through Thursday until 7pm.

KID-O-RAMA: February 13 – 21, 2010

February 13-21: Family Ski Racing on the Ford Recreational Raceway
All week long, families can take on other families and kids can challenge their parents to a head to head race. Skiers and riders race side by side through the gates and scores are displayed at the finish of the course. Winners can return to the race shack at the start of the course to claim their prize!
One can access the Ford Recreational Raceway via the traverse to the right at the top of Gold Coast Express. Racing is open 10am to 3pm, and the cost to race is $1 per person.

February 13-21: Snowtubing at Papoose
Kids and family can enjoy the thrills of snowtubing all week at the Papoose Discovery Area in the Far East corner of the mountain. Snowtubing is open from 10am to 4pm Saturday through Wednesday and 10am to 8pm Thursday through Saturday.

February 13-20: Squaw Sessions Teen Camp
Specifically designed for ski and snowboard crazed 13 to 18 year-olds, Squaw Sessions provides teens with the opportunity to experience Squaw Valley’s rich freeride culture firsthand. Whether they fantasize about conquering steep big mountain lines or jibbing and jumping in one of Squaw’s three terrain parks, Squaw Sessions is the young shredder’s dream camp. February 13-20: Scavenger Hunt on the Mountain
Guests can pick up the list of clues in the Cable Car Lobby and follow the hints around the Village to enter to win a Wildflour Baking Company Cookie Pass. Every completed hunt gets a sweet upon return of the list to the Cable Car Lobby. Open during Cable Car Hours, Sunday through Thursday from 9am to 7pm and Friday and Saturday from 9am to 9pm.

February 13: Dance Party on Ice
High Camp, el. 8,200’ brings back a host of roller rink favorites including the hokey pokey and freeze dancing for Kid-O-Rama’s Dance Party on Ice. The DJ will call the shots as skaters boogie to the music. 2pm to 3pm at the Olympic Ice Pavilion.

February 13-14: Valentine’s Day Cookie Poem Contest at Wildflour
Kids and adults alike can get in the Valentine’s Day spirit with the Valentine’s Day Cookie Poem Contest at Wildflour Baking Company. Guests who enter poems will get them written on giant cookies! The contest is open Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm, and the contest winner will be announced on Monday, February 15.

February 15: Pictures with Squaw Dogs and Beacon Basin for Kids
Kids can play with the incredibly intelligent and adorable Squaw Dogs who serve as part of Squaw Valley’s USA’s avalanche rescue team while they hunt for hidden objects at Beacon Basin using beacon technology. 1:30pm to 3:30pm in front of Squaw Kids.

February 16: Big Truck Night
For everyone who has ever thought trucks are cool, Big Truck Night has arrived. A Squaw Valley fire truck, a snow grooming CAT and giant loaders take over the Cable Car Plaza. Kids and families can check out the massive machinery that makes the mountain tick and meet the drivers behind the scenes. 3:30pm to 5pm in the Cable Car Plaza at the base, el. 6,200’.

February 17: Fountain Court Street Party
The Village at Squaw Valley USA comes alive as kids entertainers take to the streets. Children’s singer Todd Wees will lead the Village in song and dance as balloon artists and face painters get everyone in the mood for a party. 2pm to 4pm in the Village at Squaw Valley USA.

February 18: Night Snowtubing and Hot Chocolate & S’mores Party
Guests can start night tubing off right with a hot chocolate and s’mores cooked over an open fire pit. Free hot chocolate and s’mores available from 4:30pm to 6pm at the Papoose Discovery Center. Night tubing runs until 8pm on Papoose.

February 19: Costume Skating Party
Kids and families can bring their own costumes or don the provided hats, boas and accessories and join in the fun at the Costume Skating Party at High Camp, el. 8,200’. 2pm to 3pm at the Olympic Ice Pavilion.

February 20: Kids’ Night with Todd Wees
Kids rule at Kid-O-Rama’s Kids’ Night with Todd Wees. Olympic Valley Lodge (OVL) comes alive as Truckee children’s singer Todd Wees performs original kids’ songs in the great company of a balloon artist and face painter. A pizza party buffet will be offered for those in need of some early evening nourishment, and wine and beer will be available for purchase for those of age.

February 20-21: Squallywood-the-book Parent/Child Combo
Dr. Robb Gaffney’s popular ski-the-book clinic is back this winter, and his Squallywood Clinic series welcomes a new program designed for parents and children to experience together what it is like to be in a ski movie. Participants will also learn from Gaffney how to tackle the terrain so famous that someone wrote a book about it (That someone being Gaffney himself).
