Shaun White dominates halfpipe qualifier, Olympian Scotty Lago out

Shaun White has only one job now and its not shoppin’.  The sometimes Dew Cup vert champ, sometimes X Games slopestyle champ, is now solely focused on halfpipe.  It’s a Winter Olympics year, and this is where Wheaties Box cover dudes are made.  Thursday night’s superpipe prelims sent eight riders into tomorrow night’s, under-the-lights primetime final.  Shaun White threw bigger and cleaner than all.  The dude consistently performs his best at the most critical times.  He’s a winner.

Louie Vito pulled an amazing 1260 when he had to.  After sliding out on his first run, Vito had trouble again after landing two double corks.  But, on his easist trick, a straight air, Vito wobbled and struggled.  Just to make sure the judges put him safely in the top 8, Vito boosted the 1260, and sneaked into the field with a seventh place.

The big surprise is the elimination of Scotty Lago who was not able to lay down a clean run on either of his two runs.  Lago will be heading to Vancouver, but his X Games experience ended tonight.

Get pumped for the finals on Friday night, as even with riders holding a little back, the riding was all time.  Friday night promises to be a big (as in ‘way-out-of-the-pipe’) event.

Your top 8 who will have the stage Friday night:

1. Shaun White
2. Iouri Podladtchikov
3. Greg Bretz
4. Kazuhiro Kokubo
5. JJ Thomas
6. Luke Mitrani
7. Louie Vito
8. Steve Fisher
