Nordic combined Junior World Championships make Norway smile

                                                                                       Ole-Christian Wendel Speeds to Victory 

HINTERZARTEN (GER), 29 January 2010 – Ole-Christian Wendel (NOR) won his fourth medal in his career at FIS Nordic Junior World Championships. After team bronze in 2008, team gold and individual bronze in 2009, Wendel ran to Gold in the Individual 10 km event in Hinterzarten (GER) today.

Janis Morweiser from Germany got second place, Gudmund Storlien from Norway got third place. Déjà vu for Johannes Rydzek: He came in fourth for the second time during this Junior Worlds.

Wendel was in tenth place after the ski jumping portion with 1.24 minutes behind leader Marjan Jelenko. On the track, the athlete from Oslo not only got first place but outran his first rivals by 20,9 seconds (Morweiser) and 26,0 seconds (Storlien).

Fastest on the track was Truls Soenstehagen Johansen (NOR). After the jumping, he was only in 41st place. Because of 27:51.2 minutes in the cross-country portion, he got ninth place overall.

The last Nordic Combined event at these Junior Worlds will be the team event on Sunday. With four athletes inside top eight in today’s event (2. Morweiser, 4. Rydzek, 6. Johannes Firn, 8. Fabian Riessle), Germany is first candidate for first place.
