Eero Ettala tosses three double flips to claim Winter X Games Snowboard Slopestyle gold

Icelandic snowboarder Halldor Helgason was able to equally match skier Bobby Brown’s perfect Winter X Games Big Air score. Knowing Brown had also gone on to win slopestyle the next day, Helgason once again hoped to follow suit. Unfortunately, the X Games rookie would come up short of his goal. Helgason would attempt back-to-back double corks all day on the slopestyle course to no avail. While it wasn’t quite Helgason’s day, one rider was just on fire today.

Eero Ettala would use his opening run to chalk up the highest score of the day. Along the same vein of skier Kevin Rolland’s winning pipe run, Ettala would unearth a whopping triple line of tree different double flips during his run. The run consisted of: a backside double cork 1080 into a double-backside rodeo 900, capped off with a switch double back flip.

Following Ettala in 2nd place was Winter X Games newcomer Eric Willett who landed back-to-back double cork 1080s. Chas Guldemond, who barely sneaked into finals, put down a backside rodeo off the cannon box feature, then stomped a Cab 1080, a switch backside 900, and a backside 1080 on the triple line to walk away with the bronze.
