53-year-old Gilles Durand has quickly become religious.  Durand survived two successive avalanches in the Alps on Saturday, even after being buried for 45 minutes.  He told the Guardian UK, “It’s miraculous that I am still alive. If I didn’t believe in God beforehand, now I really have to.”

The Vegas odds with Avalanches are pretty grim after 15 minutes.  Survival rates are 85% within 15 minutes, 50% within 30 minutes, and then dropping to 20% within an hour.

Durand’s body temp was 82 degrees when he was eventually dug out.  He was located as his gloved hand was spotted in the avalanche debris path.
