Super Bowl Sunday DUI checkpoint in Truckee Meadows, Lake Tahoe area

Heads up ski bums and bunnies in the Lake Tahoe region. “Have fun Super Bowl Sunday but local law enforcement will be a doing drunk driving checkpoint Sunday night.

The Sparks Police Department notes it will be joined by the Reno Police Department, the Nevada Highway Patrol, the sheriff’s offices of Carson City and Lyon and Storey counties for a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location.

The money to pay for the extra staffing came from a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.

“The main goal of the checkpoint is to remove impaired drivers from the roadways and to educate the public on the dangers and consequences of driving while impaired,” Sparks police said in a statement.

Peace officers will also look for seat belt, car seat and unsafe vehicle equipment violations, the statement said.

Police urged people who have too much to drink to use a designated driver or call a cab.” (rgj.com)
