El Nino, thy wrath hath caused the good folks of the Vancouver Organizing Committee much headache action.  Now is the winter of our discontent, just ask Cypress Mountain.

Cypress Mountain, site of all the Winter Olympics snowboard and freestyle competitions is experience a serious snow shortage with just 10 days before the start of the Winter Games.  This January is the warmest on record in Metro Vancouver.

Uh-oh.

Vancouver Organizing Committee chief John Furlong put a confident face on and told the media everything is under control.  “Cypress is the only venue that has presented us with a significant challenge.  I don’t think there’s anyone here for a second who thought we would have a January with no snow, but we did.”

Reuters has called the situation “increasingly desperate” as crews transport truckloads of snow from Allison Pass, two hours away, and Manning Park.

El Nino brings warmer than normal winter temps to the Pac Northwest, putting a serious hurt on Cypress.    There was a bit of snowfall on Monday night, but rain and high temps are in the immediate forecast.
