After years of putting up with the archaic, fixed-gripped triple chair known as the “Exhibition Lift,” Colorado’s A-Basin Ski Area will finally install a new high-speed quad chair to better enhance the guest experience during the 2010-2011 ski season. A-Basin COO Alan Henceroth wanted his resort’s patrons to have a chance to name the brand new lift, and asked for suggestions prior to the start of the lift’s construction.

The response was overwhelming, as he received hundreds of entries spanning everywhere from “Quadzilla” to “Chairway to Heaven.” A-Basin management had the tough task of digging through the heaps of quality entries, until they ultimately decided “Black Mountain Express” would best suit the future lift.

Mark La Flamme of Arapahoe Basin’s Snow Maintenance Department was the author of the winning name, and will receive a $300 gift certificate to Arapahoe Sports for the creative lift title.

The “Black Mountain Express” will feature a capacity of 2000 people per hour, and deliver a vertical rise of 719 feet. Total ride time for the lift will clock in at just under three minutes.

Look for the new lift to open this fall at the Colorado ski area.
