First Lady Michelle Obama: childhood obesity, Sasha and Malia, and skiing at Liberty Mountain

Childhood obesity is dead serious.  One in three children in the U.S. are either overweight or obese.  The First Lady, Michelle Obama has opened up the conversation on this important issue.  But, some have criticized the First Lady for bringing up her own children, Malia and Sasha.  Even the President has touched on Malia’s weight in previous interviews.

“One of the things I’ve noticed is that a lot of girls develop an eating disorder because they don’t want criticism from their parents,” Jeanne Sager of babble.com told ABC News.

The competing philosophies are about the difference between behavior changes on one side and the classic dieting on the other.

“The obsession with the numbers on the scale starts when kids are very young,” Keri Gans, spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association told the NY Daily News. “It’s important to make comments such as that a person looks healthy rather than that a person is overweight or underweight.”

No one looks healthier than an avid skier.  400+ calories are burned per hour of skiing.  To have Sasha and Malia as ski ambassadors would be huge for this industry.  And right now, the biggest storm since 1922 just dropped three feet of snow on the D.C. area.  A short 60 minutes from the White House is Liberty Mountain Resort, which has its own unique story.  Click here to read our report on Liberty Mountain Resort & the Ghosts of Gettysburg.
