Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California (February 10, 2010) – Two members of the US Snowboarding team have found love amongst a career of on-snow competition. US Snowboard Halfpipe athletes Elena Hight (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) and Greg Bretz (Mammoth Lakes, CA) have been dating for nearly a year and will spend their first Valentine’s Day together in Vancouver as they both prepare for their Olympic competition on February 17 and 18 at Cypress Mountain.

The two met at the beginning of the 2009 winter season when Bretz, age 19, joined the US Snowboard Team. They have been dating since April 2009; what a way to spend their first Valentine’s Day together – while competing in Canada 2010!

“The best thing about Greg is that he finds joy in all of the small things,” said Hight, age 20. “He can

make any situation fun no matter what the circumstances are.”

As they both prepare for competition, Bretz has been looking to Hight on how to prepare for Vancouver. Four years ago, Hight represented the US as the youngest snowboard competitor in Torino, Italy. She came home with a sixth place in the Halfpipe competition.

“Elena and I have truly leaned on each other throughout this season. She is my best friend, and it has been so rad to have her give me insight as what to expect, reminding me to enjoy the entire Olympic experience. I am so stoked to go to Vancouver and have us represent the US together.” Bretz offered.

The all-American good looks of Greg (high school football star in addition to pro snowboarder) and the lovely surfer and snowboarder Elena make for a beautiful couple, even with a 12-inch height difference!

Their love for the California mountains and zest for life has created a great courtship amongst the high pressure of being professional athletes.

The two have planned for a relatively mellow Valentine’s Day. After practice at the Halfpipe, they plan to get together for dinner in Vancouver, most likely sushi, a favorite of both. Media are welcome to suggest other locales and ideas!
