It is a time of celebration, as the 2010 Winter Games begin tonight in Vancouver.  However, that celebration will be put on hold, as we have learned that a men’s Olympic luger from the former Soviet republic of Georgia died after a crash on a training run today.  21-year old Nodar Kumaritashvili lost control of his sled near the finish, and he went over the track and hit an unpadded steel pole near the finish line earlier today at the Whistler Sliding Center.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kumaritashvili’s family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.
