Weather strikes again in Whistler: Men’s Super Combi postponed

Once again Mother Nature has shown that she has complete control over the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver and Whistler. Today, the men’s super combined event was postponed due to heavy snow. The new date will be determined later this afternoon.

Normally, when it snows in Whistler, it rains in the Village, but today, the snow line reached all the way down, with huge flakes falling into town. That means major powder on the Olympic courses.

Yesterday course officials told us they planned to hold the events as quickly as possible, and that temperatures were only supposed to rise as the week progressed. The workers had been on the mountain since 3 AM, rushing to prepare the men’s downhill course. It had again been injected for hardness, and they noted that the women’s course was soft, too.

Tomorrow the schedule calls for the women’s downhill, with the men’s super G set for Friday. Check back at the skichannel.com for further updates.
