Yesterday morning at around 11 a.m., a massive avalanche slid down the northeast slope of Saddle Peak, part of the sidecountry of Montana’s Bridger Bowl ski area in Bozeman. It ran close to 2,000 vertical feet down the mountain.
There were several skiers and snowboarders on Saddle Peak who saw the slide happen, however thankfully no burials, injuries or missing people have yet been reported. 40 search and rescue workers were called to the scene, and again, no sad news to report so far.
“We would like to take this opportunity to remind all side and backcountry skiers that when they make the personal choice to leave the ski area boundaries, they are assuming all the risks and responsibilities of of back country travel and rescue,” said Doug Wales, Bridger Bowl’s Director of Marketing.
