Speedskating Winter Olympics gold medalist Sven Kramer to NBC: ‘Are you stupid?’

You’re Dutch speedskater Sven Kramer and you’ve just achieved your dream of winning a gold medal in the 5000m.  Your glory has been witnessed by 14,000 folks inside the Pacific Coliseum and millions worldwide.  You’re famous!

Well maybe not.  Immediately afterwards, an NBC reporter’s first question is, “I need you to say your name, your country and what you just won here.”

To be fair, this question is not for the reporter on scene, but for the editors back home.  Simple identification that greatly aids in the editing and logging of thousands of hours of footage.

Still, Kramer is the Netherland’s most well-known athlete, and it’s easy to see the question as somewhat insulting.  The dude just won a gold medal!  Check the vid (subtitles included), it’s quite comical and serves a cathartic purpose for those of us less-than-happy with seeing five runs in the men’s downhill, tape delayed.  Ah, but curling is live!  Thank Buddha for that!
