Patrik Jaerbyn avoided serious injury on a fall that looked anything but not serious.  The 40-year-old Swedish racer had an agony-of-defeat, gigantic fall during the super G at the Winter Olympics on Friday.  Starting from the 29th position, Jaerbyn caught his inside edge and was catapulted into the air before landing on his back.

“There is no sign of any severe injury,”Sweden team physician Per Liljeholm said. “He has a mild to moderate concussion and some scrapes on his face, but there is no sign of internal bleeding to the brain or elsewhere.”

Jaerybyn was airlifted off the course to a Vancouver hospital.  He’ll spend the night there, but could be released as early as Saturday afternoon.
