Soft snow from an overnight storm and thick fog caused World and Olympic Champion Lindsey Vonn to crash during the women’s GS at Whistler. She spun around before landing hard on her side and slamming into the protective fencing.
As Vonn seemed to hold a tender hand, officials rushed to her side to help untangle her. Meanwhile, Olympic teammate Julia Mancuso started her run and made a few turns on the course before getting flagged and pulling up.
Mancuso will get a re-run but a helicopter set to fly her back to the start was on hold due to the fog. The concerned looking Mancuso had to jump aboard a ski mobile to get back up for her next run.
The mishap may prove to be a benefit, as it gave Mancuso another first-hand look at the course and conditions. The down-side however, is that it pushes the defending Olympic Champ down on the start list, and the course will be slower and more chewed up.
