Tension between Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso a played up exaggeration

The alleged rivalry between Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso is really just the media’s way of stirring up some drama in the hopes of capturing more of an audience. In reality, the two share no bad blood…they are merely competitors. They share mutual respect and admiration for one another, and, while they each want to do well for themselves, they always wish only the best for each other.

Julia cleared this up last night when she said she has “…been hearing lots of people thinking I’m mad at Lindsey for crashing… that’s just ridiculous! bummed about the situation…not Lindsey”.

Many felt the “tension” between the two great skiers surfaced yesterday when Julia was served a hearty disadvantage on the Olympic giant slalom as a result of Lindsey’s crash. Yes, Julia was bummed and emotional…but that was not a reflection of her feelings towards Lindsey, but rather towards the situation.

As for her comment regarding the decrease morale of the whole team when Lindsey has a bad day…it may be true. And yes, Lindsey gets most of the media spotlight. Julia was stating information she believed to be true, and it was not meant to come out as a rant against Lindsey.

Lindsey has not commented on this issue, perhaps because she feels it’s such a trivial non-issue that it doesn’t deserve a comment.

Watch this “old school” video profile of both skiers (before Lindsey was “Vonn”). They admit it’s difficult to always be neck and neck with someone of similar age and ability…but that’s simply part of the game.
