In an unprecedented finish, Americans Bill Demong and Johnny Spillane won Olympic gold and silver medals in the Nordic Combined Large Hill event today at Whistler Olympic Park. The event was initially delayed due to poor weather, but officials managed to push it through.
Demong and Spillane both took silver medals in the Team event earlier this week and today’s medal is Spillane’s third silver at the 2010 Games. It is also Demong’s first Olympic gold medal. The Americans’ performances brought the USA’s overall medal count to 30 over Germany’s 26. Clearly, with so many medals including five of Team USA’s eight gold medals, the United States Ski and Snowboard Association is running the Olympic show.
