It started with a roar, but Lindsey Vonn’s Winter Olympics experience ended with a whimper. Vonn, starting in the 10th position of today’s slalom, straddled a gate coming through a relatively flat section of the course.
Still, Vonn goes home with confirmation of her greatness complete in the form of a gold medal in downhill, and a bronze in super G. She overcame massive media pressure, injury, and the most difficult of snow conditions. Lindsey Vonn is an Olympic champion.
Now the focus turns to the World Cup. Vonn is chasing a third consecutive overall title, unprecedented by an American.
Currently Maria Riesch leads the first run by 0.40 seconds ahead of Sarka Zahrobska of Czechoslovakia. Marlies Schild of Austria is in third, 0.65 seconds off the pace.
