Not that we were unsure if the United States is the best country in the world, but we were a bit unsure that we’d be in the lead for Olympic medals at this point in the Games. Considering number of Olympic medals directly equates to amount of world power (I’m sure Stephen Colbert would agree), we’re doing pretty dang well.

The United States increased our lead over Germany in number of Olympic medals. We’re now at 32, six ahead of Germany’s 26. We’ve got 8 gold medals, 12 silvers and 12 bronzes. Germany has 8 golds, 11 silvers and 7 bronzes.

In third remains Norway with 19 (7 gold, 6 silver, 6 bronze), followed by Canada with 17 (8 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze). Nice job Canada! The Russian Federation rounds out the top five with 13 medals, 3 golds, 4 silvers and 6 bronzes.
