Here at The Ski Channel, we’re big on heroes. Whether we’re talking about ski and snowboard heroes, like Lindsey Vonn, Julia Mancuso and Shaun White, or real, life-saving heroes, like Captain Chesley Sullenberger.

Sully was the pilot of the US Airways plane that had an emergency landing on the Hudson River in January of 2009. He expertly handled the situation and safely landed the plane on the water when birds flew into the plane’s engines. All 150 passengers survived the ordeal.

Capt. Sully is retiring today. He joined US Airways’ predecessor airline in 1980. At 59 years old, he’s ready to hang up the jacket. Enjoy retirement, Captain. You will always be remembered as a hero of the skies.
