Six months ago, Jaycee Dugard was found after 18 years of living in captivity. At 11 years old, while waiting for the school bus, Jaycee was snatched by sex-offender Phillip Garrido and wife Nancy Garrido. The two held Jaycee in their backyard for 18 years, where she birthed two children from Phillip. Click here to refresh your memory about the entire story.
This video has been released by the Dugards to show the world that Jaycee and the rest of the family are doing OK in this time of healing. They want the world to know they are healthy and happy, and Jaycee is learning to adjust. They would like to leave it at that. In the video, Jaycee’s mother pleads for privacy: “Please give us the time we need to heal without the prying eyes of the photographers and the press”.
In her first public statement, Jaycee kept it short and simple: “Hi, I’m Jaycee. I want to thank you for your support and I’m doing well. It’s been a long haul, but I’m getting there”.
The entire video will be shown tonight at 9PM ET on “20/20″ on ABC.
As for Phillip and Nancy Garrido, they have pleaded not guilty to 29 felonies.
