Update: Lost Crystal mountain pair went 26 miles in the wrong direction

The snowboarder and skier who were lost on Crystal Mountain hiked 26 miles all night long in the wrong direction.  They finally found a ranger station and called home. 

They told rangers they didn’t realize they were out of ski bounds into the Norse Park wilderness.  They followed the Morse Creek drainage  3 miles down to Highway 410, which is closed for the winter.

They skied and snowboarded 6 miles to Chinook Pass and another 3 to Cayuse Pass, found Highway 123, says the acting chief ranger at Mount Rainier.

They asked a passing motorist for directions and were told it was about 5 miles back to Crystal. Although it was getting dark, they decided they could hike to their car.

“We definitely wouldn’t have gone if it wasn’t for the 5-mile estimation,” Cameron told KING-TV.

But instead of heading up Highway 123 to Crystal, they turned left, heading in exactly the wrong direction.  They are grateful for the  efforts rescue workers who looked for them.
