The snowboarder and skier who were lost on Crystal Mountain hiked 26 miles all night long in the wrong direction.  They finally found a ranger station and called home.

They told rangers they didn’t realize they were out of ski bounds into the Norse Park wilderness.  They followed the Morse Creek drainage  3 miles down to Highway 410, which is closed for the winter.

They skied and snowboarded 6 miles to Chinook Pass and another 3 to Cayuse Pass, found Highway 123, says the acting chief ranger at Mount Rainier.

They asked a passing motorist for directions and were told it was about 5 miles back to Crystal. Although it was getting dark, they decided they could hike to their car.

“We definitely wouldn’t have gone if it wasn’t for the 5-mile estimation,” Cameron told KING-TV.

But instead of heading up Highway 123 to Crystal, they turned left, heading in exactly the wrong direction.  They are grateful for the  efforts rescue workers who looked for them.
