Ten Stratton Mountain School students qualify for finals at Boreal Revolution Tour

Stratton Mountain, Vt.‹The Stratton Mountain School Snowboarding Program had
more than 10 athletes qualify for finals at the Boreal, Calif., Revolution
Tour, the top junior tour in the country, and Serena Shaw ’13 earned a
podium spot in the women’s Halfpipe event on March 6.

Serena Shaw ¹13 took third place in the Halfpipe with a run that included
back-to-back 540s and a frontside 720, beating a field of more than 31
girls. Serena took eighth place in the Slopestyle competition as well. Her
third place Halfpipe finish at Boreal is Serena¹s second Grand Prix podium
spot this year.

For the boys, Spencer Shaw ¹11 and Joe Mensch ¹10 made it to the finals.
Shaw walked away with an impressive fourth-place finish after throwing a
front 900 and a front 1080, along with a back 540 and a Cab 720. Mensch came
in right behind him in fifth place with a run that included a Cab 720 to a
front 900 and a back 900.

Over on the slopestyle course, Phoebe Novello ¹12 and Serena Shaw took
seventh and eight place while Eric Beauchemin ¹10 came close to the podium.
Beauchemin marked his second fourth place Revolution Tour result this year,
throwing runs with a backside rodeo 540, a Cab 900 and a Backside 720.
Spencer Shaw also made it to the finals for boys and came in eighth place.

To round out the series, Spencer Shaw marked a sixth place finish in the
Snowboardcross (SBX) event on March 5. Alex Diebold ¹04, a SMS alum, stood
on the podium in second place. For the girls, Kiley Kennedy ¹12 marked the
best girls¹ results with a seventh place finish. Three U.S. Snowboarding
members were in attendance for the competition, including Jayson Hale, Pat
Holland and Faye Gulini.

The SMS Snowboarding Program will compete next at their home mountain for

Stratton Mountain School is a ski and snowboard academy located at the base
of Stratton Mountain. The school serves students in grades 8-12 with winter
programs for seventh graders. The SMS community of students, faculty,
