Breckenridge Ski Resort worker killed Wednesday afternoon by avalanche in Summit County while snowboarding.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office reported the avalanche occured about 3PM. The 20 year old man was snowboarding with 2 others who were above and behind him when it hit.

Reported by Jeffery Wolf, the men say it took about 20 to 25 minutes to get a cell phone signal and get to the victim. The Summit County Rescue Group says the victim was carried an estimated 1,000 feet by the avalanche and his body was almost completely buried when the others reached him.  37 rescue workers devised a rope system to recover the body.
