For the first time ever, Snowbird will host the Subaru World Freeskiing Championships, which will take place next week from March 16th through 21st. Skiers from all over the world have already filled registration, and spectators will be treated to amazing powder skiing, massive cliff jumps and overall grace.

“We’re honored to be hosting some of the best big mountain skiers from around the world for the final stop of the Subaru Freeskiing World Tour,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “I’m confident that Snowbird’s terrain and snow conditions will live up to the caliber that everyone expects from a World Championship venue.”

With 352 inches of snow this season and more on the way this weekend, Snowbird’s famed big-mountain terrain will be sure to please.  ”I’m very excited to compete at the Subaru Freeskiing World Championships”, said current Subaru FWT leader Griffin Post. ”My goal is to win the tour more than the event. For sure I want and need to do well in the event, but to be the first guy to win the McConkey Cup is the ultimate aspiration.”

“To honor our good friend and legendary skier Shane McConkey–who founded this sport and the IFSA-the overall Subaru FWT champions will be awarded with the McConkey Cup”, added Mountain Sport International President Adam Comey. This sport was his dream and we intend to keep it thriving for years to come.”

The event kicks off March 17th and 18th with two days of qualifiers, with official FWT competition days on Friday and Saturday (19th and 20th). Sunday the 21st has been reserved as a snow day.
