Fun news coming out of the Breckenridge ski resort today! Officials there are planning on building a 2,500 foot long alpine coaster to be used in summer and winter. An alpine coaster uses gravity and rails, and unlike a typical roller coaster, the passenger controls the speed down the hill and around trees and other alpine terrain, descending about 300 feet.
Tomorrow night, Vail Resorts (owner of the Breckenridge ski area) will present its proposal to the Breckenridge Planning Commission.
The intention is for the resort to operate the coaster from June to mid-September and early November through mid-April, said Vail resorts spokeswoman Kristen Petitt. If building plans are approved, construction should begin this summer.
