Ladies, pay attention. Zeke Piestrup is one of our on-camera hosts and reporters here at The Ski Channel. He is a good looking man (this coming from a heterosexual male writer). If you ever find yourself staying in the same hotel room as him however, refrain from taking nude videos of him through a peephole. It could ruin your life. I know it may be hard to contain yourself, but trust me…it’s not worth it.
Michael David Barrett, 48, was a successful insurance executive from Illinois. He had a fiancee, good friends, good family, and overall a good life.
Then he decided to stalk ESPN reporter Erin Andrews through three different cities and film her in various hotel rooms through a peephole. Many times she was nude when he filmed her. Just to be clear…she was unaware she was being filmed.
In December, Barrett pleaded guilty to interstate stalking. He was planning on selling the videos to Los Angeles based gossip site, TMZ. Today, he has been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, the maximum possible sentence under the law.
In court, Barrett and Andrews confronted each other. Barrett tearily apologized, Andrews had none of it. “You violated me and you violated all women,” Andrews told Barrett. “You are a sexual predator, a sexual deviant and they should lock you up.”
“There are no words to tell Ms. Andrews how sorry I am for what I’ve done to her,” he said. “I hope someday she can forgive me.”
“It’s my body on the Internet,” she said. “I’m being traumatized every single day for what he did. … This will never be over for me.”
US District Judge Manuel Real added, “The victim, Andrews, will be suffering with this problem for the rest of her life. There is no life sentence that can be imposed upon him, except his own guilt.”
So ladies, remember—resist the urge to film Mr. Piestrup doing private things. And men, for Pete’s sake, let’s try and improve some of our stereotypes a bit, shall we? Let’s bring chivalry back and, you know, like…NOT secretly film women while they’re naked in hotel rooms, k?
