Swiss ski team fires women’s alpine coach, gets Lara Gut’s mentor

Due to poor results in slalom and giant slalom races (they won only two World Cup races last season, both in super-G), Switzerland’s ski federation has fired Hugues Ansermoz as the head coach of the women’s Alpine team.

Replacing Ansermoz will be Mauro Pini, after working with the men’s speed team for one season. Amongst Pini’s credits include helping guide Didier Defago to the Olympic gold medal in downhill and Didier Cuche to the season-long World Cup downhill title.

Additionally, Pini was 18-year-old Lara Gut’s personal coach when she won silver in downhill and super-combined at the 2009 world championships. The two have not been reunited for a while, seeing as how Gut missed the entire Olympic season after dislocating her right hip in a training crash.

The Swiss ski federation hopes Pini will bring improvements and adjustments.
