California legislative committee advances helmet bill

As we reported last week, lawmakers in California have been considering a bill to make helmets mandatory for minors who are skiing or snowboarding.  Today, a legislative committee has advanced the bill, which, in addition to the helmet rule, would also impose safety rules on ski resorts.  If the bill does get signed into law, it would be the most restrictive bill in the country, as all skiers or boarders under the age of 18 would be mandated to wear a helmet.  Some lawmakers are worried that the bill could hurt the ski industry, but so far that concern has not been able to halt the bill.
