The invites have been sent and the RSVPs from the VIPs will make this year’s Mammoth Invitational the ski event of the year. With an A-list of U.S. Ski Team stars and stars of the big and small screen, the Mammoth Invitational encompasses the best kind of benefit: One that benefits the community and one that benefits the happiness levels of all who participate. April 2-4, at Mammoth Mountain, here’s a brief rundown of the fantastic festivities.
First off, as the name infers, it all happens at Mammoth Mountain, a ski utopia set atop of the awe-inspiring mountains of the Eastern Sierra. And with new snow falling on the peaks at this moment, this weekend will be a perfect mix of fresh, fresher ski team athletes, and the freshest of celebs.
So head up to Mammoth Mountain this weekend. The action gets underway on Friday. Click here for a schedule of events. Three days of family fun benefitting the Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation, which supports young athletes and scholars in the Eastern Sierra by providing facilities, services, equipment and programs which enable them to achieve educational and competitive sport excellence.
Excellence will be in large supply with US Olympians Ted Ligety, Stacey Cook, Steven Nyman, Tommy Czeshin, Keely Kelleher, and Erik Fisher (pictured above) all competing in a dual-racing format. Legend of tow-in surfing, Dave Kalama will see if his skills on the monster waves can help him tackle the mammoth pistes of Mammoth Mountain. And the island vibes will flow cooly from the Jamaican Ski Team’s Errol Kerr.
Hollywood celebs will undoubtedly be happy that the paparazzi will be kept off the mountain. Free to mingle and free to ski, here’s a list of TV and films stars appearing and racing in this year’s Mammoth Invitaitonal:
Donna Mills has been a gainfully employed actress for 40+ years who is best known for her role as Abby Cunningham on “Knots Landing.” To movie buffs, Mills plays Clint Eastwood’s girlfriend in the classic “Play Misty for Me.” She’s also starred in “The Stepford Husbands” and most recently, “Ladies of the House.”
Wendie Malick was nearly Diane Chambers on “Cheers.” Her audition was unsuccessful, but her TV and modeling career have been just the opposite. She starred as the boozing x-model Nina Van Horn on “Just Shoot Me!,” and later played lounge singer Ronee Lawrence on “Fraiser.” She’s appeared on the X-Files, MacGyver, LA. Law, Tales from the Crypt, NYPD Blue, and numerous other ratings winners.
Melissa River’s performances on the red carpet with her mother Joan Rivers were simply TV gold. Comical, outrageous, insightful, the red carpet has never been the same since Rivers left E! for more lucrative deals. Hosting lead to acting roles on “Beverly Hills 90210″ and “Silk Stalkings.” Most recently Rivers caused a stir on NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” when the Don gave her his patented “You’re fired.”
Kimberlin Brown is an Emmy-nominated soap star, playing the role of Sheila Carter on both “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Sadly, Brown’s character met her demise when Lauren Baldwin popped a cap in her. And you thought gangsta’ rap was violent?
Since 1994, Joshua Morrow has played Nicholas Newman on “The Young and the Restless.” For his work, Morrow has been nominated five times for the Emmy Award of Outstanding Younger Actor in a daytime drama. An avid poker player, Morrow plays on the World Poker Tour to benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
There you have it! The ski event of the year will be the Mammoth Mountain Invitational, happening this Friday, April 2nd and on through a wonderful weekend filled with incredible El Nino snow, celebrities, and world class athletes. Don’t miss it!
